Pickard China USA 1944 Iceland Independence Commemorative Eagle Plate in Frame

Offered here is an original,  Pickard China USA, 8 1/4" diameter plate commemorating 17 June 1944, the day
Iceland was proclaimed an independent republic. Iceland actually gained independence from Denmark much earlier, on December 1st 1918 with the signing of the Act of Union with Denmark. The Act recognised Iceland as an independent state under the Danish crown. The plate has a painted gold rim and a graphic litho transfer design of an eagle in an idyllic landscape and sunrise. Signed by the artist Stefan Jonsson.  The plate is contained in a 10 1/4" diameter hardwood frame which has an affixed metal hanger.  There are no chips or cracks, but there are a couple of minor abrasions to the painted surface. I have only ever seen two of these plates in the last 40+ years. I doubt there were many made.   (see all photos)
