    Description

    Offered is the Viking Models 1:35 scale kit of the Alvin DSV Deep Submergence Vehicle research submarine.
    This kit was licensed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, who is the owner/operator of the Alvin DSV.
    Produced in very limited numbers and long since out of production. this kit is very rare and extremely hard to
    find. The Texas-based company, Viking Models, has been out of business for many years.
    The kit is composed of two hull parts made of resin, and about 8 inches long. The detail parts are cast metal
    and a sheet of photo-etched metal, all in sealed bags and envelopes. There is also some fine mesh screen
    material to make the sample basket.
    There is a small decal sheet included.
    Resin parts are more delicate than styrene plastic and extra care must be taken during assembly, using cyanoacrylate
    (Super Glue). The corrugated cardboard box has begin to de-laminate with age. The 12-page set of instructions
    were held together with a single metal staple that rusted away and left a small stain on the upper left corner of each
    individual page. Other than the few shortcomings mentioned this rare kit is complete and build-able.
